Celebrating Minority-Owned Businesses and Black History Month

Feb 03, 2018

All American Document Services is proud to be a minority-owned business, and we want to take this opportunity to support other minority-owned businesses.

Minority-Owned Businesses Growing 10x Faster than Average

Minority-owned businesses play an increasingly vital role in the U.S. economy. Over the past ten years in particular, they have been a steady and reliable engine of economic growth. Between 2007 and 2017 minority-owned small businesses grew 79%. That’s 10x faster than the average U.S. small business over the same time period.

Funding for Minority-Owned Businesses Still Lacking

The problem? Despite these huge gains, and the fact that there are now over 11 million minority-owned businesses, many minority business owners still struggle disproportionately to obtain small business loans. Because of the ceiling placed on traditional funding for minority business owners, many business owners end up turning to the many grants that are available to fix the funding gap.

Before Applying for Grants, Get Certified as a MBA or MBE

Before applying for any grant, the business needs to be certified to ensure that the owner is who they say they are. Many forms of certification are available, either through public sector (National Minority Supplier Development Council, National Minority Supplier Development Council) federal government (U.S. Small Business Administration, Office of the Chief Counsel for the Minority Business Development Agency)as well as state and local governments offer certifications for minority-owned businesses.
